There are 3 main methods of producing graphics for tradeshow exhibits, Lightjet, inkjet and solvent printing. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on what is deemed to be the most important aspect; cost, quality or longevity. Below is a comparison of the different printing technologies that CTM offers. Quick Specs
|
LightjetLightjet printing is the highest quality printing method currently available. Lightjet uses red green and blue lasers to produce the image on a photosensitive media, the same way a photo lab develops pictures. This method of printing offers the highest colour depth, approximately 68 billion colours, of any printing technology. The resolution of Lightjet is equivalent to 4000DPI, far superior to that of the other printing methods. | ![]() |
![]() | InkjetInkjet printing is the industry standard for large format printing. Similar to a home or office desktop printer, a large format inkjet printer uses a 6 color or 8 color process (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Cyan, Light Magenta [Light black, Light Light Black]) to produce vivid, sharp graphics. By using dye based inks we are able to achieve a colour space far superior to Pigment based inks, but not yet as broad as LightJet printing. At a resolution of 720DPI, the average viewer would be hard pressed to tell the difference between inkjet and LightJet on the tradeshow floor. For the minimal quality difference Inkjet is substantially more cost effective. |
SolventSolvent printing has the smallest obtainable number of colours. Still offering decent image quality solvent tends to offer a less vibrant image. Solvent is primarily intended for long image life in outdoor settings. Depending on the location of the graphics and their purpose solvent may be a viable option in trade shows. Solvent is the most economic of the 3 large format printing methods. | ![]() |
